General

What is Gilium?

Gilium is an automation test executive for calibration laboratories. It runs standardized calibration and performance verification procedures against real instruments, records each measurement against its tolerance, and produces the report. It replaces hand-driven procedures and one-off scripts with a single, consistent tool.

Who is it for?

Commercial calibration labs that need throughput and consistency, and internal calibration labs at aerospace, defense and electronics manufacturers that need documented, repeatable procedures for audits.

What does a procedure include?

Each procedure has an introduction with the instrument covered and the standards required, a list of tests, a connection diagram and setup instructions for each test, and a datasheet of test points with limits. The test logic drives the instruments and records results automatically.

Does Gilium require an internet connection?

No. Testing runs entirely on the Windows PC connected to your instruments. An internet connection is only used to download installers and for license activation.

Hardware and connectivity

Which interfaces are supported?

GPIB, USB and LAN instruments through a VISA library (NI-VISA is recommended), plus National Instruments DAQ hardware such as cDAQ and PXI modules through NI-DAQmx. Instruments are discovered with the Scan button and assigned to procedure resources by drag and drop.

What are the PC requirements?

A 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC with a GPIB or USB-to-GPIB interface if your instruments use GPIB, and the NI-VISA runtime. A second monitor is convenient for viewing connection diagrams while working at the bench, but is not required.

Which reference standards do procedures use?

Procedures name the standards they need and the models accepted for each role, for example a Fluke 5520A, 5522A or 5560A as the oscilloscope calibrator, or a Keysight E4418B or N1914A as the power meter. The procedure detail page on this site lists the accepted models.

My reference standard is not in the accepted model list. Can it be added?

Often yes, if a driver exists or can be written for it and its specifications support the tolerances of the procedure. Contact us with the model and the procedures you want to run it with.

Procedures

How many procedures are available?

The library currently contains 165 procedures covering power meters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, frequency counters, signal and function generators, multimeters, power sensors, RF detectors and bridges, network and noise figure analyzers, waveguide devices and NI DAQ modules. The Procedures page lists them all.

What does the (B) suffix on some procedures mean?

A (B) variant of a procedure covers the same instrument with an alternative set of reference standards or an alternative test flow, so labs with different standards on hand can still run the procedure.

Can you write a procedure for an instrument you do not cover?

Yes. New procedures are developed from the manufacturer's performance test specifications. Contact us with the model, the specifications you calibrate to, and the standards you have available.

Can we modify procedures ourselves?

Procedure configuration and datasheets are stored in editable JSON and XML files, and a Procedure Editor tool is included for maintaining test lists and datasheet tables. Test logic changes are handled by Overpower Labs.

Does Gilium perform adjustments or only verification?

Both, where the instrument supports it. Procedures with adjustment routines expose an Adjustments session between the as-found and as-left sessions.

Reports and data

Which export formats are available?

Rich text PDF and DOCX with charts, plain text PDF, DOCX and TXT, and raw data as XML and CSV. You select which sessions and tests to include before exporting.

Can I import results into my calibration management system?

The XML and CSV exports contain the measured values, nominal values, limits, units and pass/fail status for each test point and are intended for import into third-party systems.

What happens if a run is interrupted?

Results are saved to an archive as each test completes. Reopen the archive from the Setup tab to continue with the remaining tests or export what has been done.

Does Gilium calculate measurement uncertainty?

Procedures apply the tolerances from the datasheet. Guard-banding and uncertainty calculations are the responsibility of your quality system; the raw exports provide the data needed to apply them.

Licensing and purchasing

How is Gilium licensed?

Gilium is commercially licensed per installation. Pricing tiers are listed on the Pricing page; contact sales for a formal quote or a multi-site agreement.

How do I download Gilium?

Downloads are available to customers with an account. Accounts are created by Overpower Labs when a license is purchased or an evaluation is arranged. Sign in from the Customer Login page to access the current installer and release notes.

Is an evaluation available?

Yes. Contact us to arrange an evaluation account and a time-limited license key.

How are updates delivered?

New releases are posted to the customer download area with release notes. Your license covers updates for the term of your subscription or maintenance agreement.

Support

How do I get support?

Email support with the procedure number, the instrument models involved and, if possible, the saved archive from the run. Support hours and response targets are set out in your license agreement.

Can Overpower Labs help commission Gilium in our lab?

Yes. Remote commissioning assistance is available to verify instrument communication, load reference-standard data and run a first procedure end to end.

Ready to see Gilium on your own bench?

Tell us which instruments you calibrate most. We will point you to the matching procedures and arrange an evaluation license.
